What is the Marching Band?

We are an outdoor musical performance ensemble that incorporates marching and movement into all performances.

 

Who can join?

Membership is open to any student enrolled at Salem High School including the Visual and Performing Arts Academy.

The Marching Band is comprised of:

  • The Horn Line - brass and woodwinds marching on the field

  • The Drum Line - percussion marching on the field

  • The Front Ensemble (also called “The Pit”) - percussion on the sideline

  • The Color Guard

What do we do?

The Marching Band represents Salem High School at many community events and competitions. We perform at all home football games, local parades, and compete against other bands of comparable size. But mostly, we try to have fun.

Is there a membership fee?

Yes, there is a fee associated with marching band.  We are not fully funded by the school system, and we do things to give students additional opportunities that all require money. This fee enables us to hire additional instructional staff needed for the marching band, to replace uniform parts, to purchase equipment for the band, and to provide music and drill for the band, among many other things.

How much does it cost?

  • 2024 Marching Band Fees

    • Save Your Spot Fee (goes towards student total fee)

      • All Students - $100

      • Payment type - Cash/Check/PayPal

      • Payment due by July 31st, 2024

    • Student Fee

      • New Students - $450 ($50 Marching Shoes)

      • Returning Students $400

      • Payment Type - Cash/Check​/PayPal

      • Payment due by September 27th, 2024

Payment Plans Available

Band Boosters offer 3 and 5 month payment plans.  If you would like to set up a payment plan please contact the Band Booster Treasurer.

Payments can be made via cash, check, or PayPal

Select the "Send" tab

Enter the amount you want to send.

In the note section please be sure to comment who and what the payment is for!

  • Review and confirm the information on the screen and click "Send Money Now".

  • This fee enables us to hire additional instructional staff needed for the marching band, to replace uniform parts, to purchase equipment for the band, and to provide music and drill for the band, among many other things.​

  • Note: 

    • PayPal's policies have recently changed and enforcement has started within the last month, meaning that our PayPal Business account can no longer receive Friends and Family payments.

How much time does it take?

Not as much as people think.  We are like a fall sport, but with more flexibility!

 

Band Camp: 2/3 weeks of August

 

After school rehearsals:

Tuesday     4:30 – 8:00 PM

Thursday    4:30 – 8:00 PM

Friday        2:30 – 5:00 PM*

*We only rehearse on Friday if there is a competition scheduled for that weekend.

What is asked of you?

For parents,  we ask you to be involved in your child’s education.  One way to do that is to get involved with the Band Boosters. We are all here to support the students of the band.  We truly need your help.

 

Students are asked to make a commitment to the band. Students are expected to come to every rehearsal, every performance, and be a proud representative of Salem High School.
